Olives loved by the Romans
It takes its name from Cerignola, an Apulian town. One of the various theories on its origin tells that it was born from the Roman “orchites” olives, which the troops of Rome used to carry on their long journeys. They went to Puglia and throwing the kernels on the ground at the end of a banquet, they gave life to the cultivation of Cerignola. It is an olive with a delicate taste and fleshy pulp, but the most striking thing is its size which makes it perhaps the largest olive in the world.
Bella di Cerignola Green Olives are one of the most popular varieties among table olives. Their appearance is very inviting in both size and color. With a savory, pulpy and crunchy flavor, they are mainly used with cheese appetizers, snacks or in the preparation of cocktails. Bright jade-green in color, these extra large olives are from the Apulia region of Italy (near the heel). The perfect appetizer or martini olive; their extra large size makes them very meaty with a mild, clean & fruity taste.
Bella di Cerignola Olives are firm and savory. They have a deeply satisfying umami taste, but a flavor mild enough even for those who claim not to be wild about olives. One taste of these olives and we’re sure they’ll be hooked. The firm meaty flesh separates easily from the pit, giving each bite a totally satisfying mouthfeel. That means that the people responsible for growing the olives are the same people responsible for putting them in jars, you can't get any better than that!
