Meatball sandwich
The sandwich with meatballs and sauce is a classic street food of Southern Italy. Ideal for lunches out or for a different meal! Absolutely delicious! Friends gourmets welcome back or welcome to my kitchen, today I bring to the table a dish that as a child I consumed so often that I thought it was very common. Instead, living in Rome, I discovered that it is not so common. In the south this is a respectable dish, very easy to prepare for charity, but still something substantial and inevitable in our lives. A Neapolitan friend of mine then told me that in Naples there is a whole culture behind this dish, one more reason to go there I would say.
Naples is the home of good street food and among the Neapolitan street food here is the best sandwich. Made in Naples according to Gambero Rosso. We all know Gambero Rosso, the leading platform for content, training, promotion and consultancy in the Italian Wine Travel Food sector and we read with pleasure its specialized articles or the many periodicals, books, guides that are widespread in Italy and in the world. There are also those who attend the courses of its Gambero Rosso Academy, six training facilities present throughout Italy. For these reasons I could not remain indifferent to the interest shown by Gambero Rosso for street food in Naples and in particular for the good sandwiches that can be found in the city.
Meatballs are the queens of comfort food, loved by young and old. Each family has its own recipe, everyone has their preferences that change in shape, size, texture... But anyway the facades, they are always fantastic. I love the classics, with sauce, where you can then make the sandwich with fresh bread. But to do even faster, why not put the meatballs and the sauce directly in a sandwich? Every now and then it's okay to overdo it and indulge in a delicious "cheat meal" like this. Why settle for a sandwich with hamburger, ketchup and mustard, when we have the opportunity to make a sandwich.
And what are you waiting for to prepare it?
Ingredients
Baguette bread
100 g provolone (thinly sliced)
Extra virgin olive oil to taste
Preparation
First prepare the meatballs with sauce. Cut the baguette bread by opening it only on one side so as to have a "bag" of bread. Pour a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil inside and spread a layer of sauce. Add the meatballs, 4 per sandwich and pour more sauce, without exaggerating. Spread the thinly chopped provolone slices over the still hot meatballs. Put the sandwiches in the microwave for 1 minute at maximum temperature, so that the cheese has a chance to melt. Remove your sandwich with meatballs with sauce from the microwave and serve it on the table still hot and steaming.
