Poggio Triale 2017 – Grechetto IGP Lazio
THE BEST WINES FOR GAMBERO ROSSO UNDER 15 EUROS
Who said that to uncork excellent wine you need to spend a fortune? Gambero Rosso also teaches us this, which in the new 2024 Wine Guide dedicates an entire section to the best labels that have passed the jury's very tough selection and that can be found on the shelves at a cost of less than 15 or even 10 euros.
Veneto and Puglia are the two regions of Italy with the highest number of wines with the best value for money, Emilia Romagna the one with the highest number of wines under 10 euros while at the bottom are Tuscany and Lombardy, where there are very few excellences accessible to all budgets. But the offer in all regions is rich and varied, including whites and reds, which demonstrates how the winemaking vocation of our country can give life to products of great value in a great price balance for the end consumer.

From the gates of Rome to the Etruscan lands to give continuity to the family past. A history full of faces, traditions and great natives, where the rule of success is the united family: this is how an ancient abandoned estate has become one of the most interesting realities in the Lazio region.
Castiglione in Teverina is one of those places where you don't arrive by chance. A boundary gem to be reached without haste, crossing majestic woods and eighteenth-century farmhouses surrounded by the silence of the countryside overlooking the Tiber valley.
We are in Alta Tuscia, where Lazio and Umbria embrace each other and share an undisputed prince of these lands: Grechetto. Even Sora Teresa and her son-in-law Randolfo did not arrive here by chance but to look for an "elsewhere", in spite of the progress that had cancelled their company in Mentana to make way for a motorway.
From the gates of Rome to the ancient Etruscan lands, a lifelong journey to take over a centuries-old estate that had been abandoned for some time and thus resume that interrupted thread made of passion and tradition for wine. Later, the whole family began to sow courage and determination, from his wife Agnese to his children Pierfrancesco, Maria Teresa and Laura. Far from their habits, almost on tiptoe so as not to disturb the silence of the splendid Valle dei Calanchi.
The history of Tenuta La Pazzaglia is full of family events, united by the rule of success. From the magical combination of land and tenacity, the company has been able to rediscover its nature in a territory that initially hindered them. A look at the past to give value to the future that rests on 37 hectares, of which 10 are planted with vineyards and two with olive groves.
A great appeal in its mineral gentleness and savory verve, a wine for those who are never in a hurry in life.
Poggio Triale 2017 – Grechetto IGP LazioA glass with a very bright straw yellow, strong to the eye and offering elegant golden reflections. The aromatic framework is intense in the fruity aromas of apricot and cedar, melon, pineapple and peach. Pears and plums peep out and a persuasive sweet trail of almonds. Floral elegance, acacia and broom, alternating with fresh notes of marjoram and sage, tomato leaf and a strong minerality of flint. Nuances of hazelnut. Savoury texture in the mouth, pleasant and evident freshness. The aromatic returns are fruity and delicately herbaceous, with a mineral finish shaded by citrine notes. Great finesse in the whole. For important seafood foods, from shellfish to baked fish but also carpaccio and meat tartare, grilled white meats; pasta dishes with cheese and egg sauces, savory pies.
My tasting note2017 * Straw green-coloured. Intense on the nose, hints of hydrocarbons and slight pungency. Medium structured, vegetal notes, tannic hints, slightly bitter finish.
Purchased in 1990 * when it was in a complete state of abandonment * by the Verdecchia family, the La Pazzaglia Estate has 37 hectares * 12 of which are vineyards * in Castiglione in Teverina, a few kilometers south-east of Orvieto.
