MONTEPULCIANO D'ABRUZZO "VIGNETO DI POPOLI" 2013 VALLE REALE
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Vigneto di Popoli" is a red wine from Abruzzo produced in organic farming by Valle Reale. It comes from a vineyard of more than 70 years of age at 350 meters of altitude, a great expression of Abruzzi's red wines. The organic Montepulciano grapes that produce this wine are sourced from two separate vineyards: Popoli and Capestrano. Capestrano's soaring summer temperatures and silty soils yield richness and structure. The rocky and exposed terrain of Popoli bestows fragrance and freshness. Spontaneous fermentation binds the raw materials into a sum that is greater than its individual parts-- a wine that is both rich and elegant, and that speaks clearly of its terroir.
VALLE REALE Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, out of central Italy, employs organic grapes out of two vineyards (Popoli and Capestrano) and encourages a 10-day spontaneous fermentation, helping create a rich, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Great with eggplant parmesan, mushrooms and pasta, and other meat-free dishes. Silky smooth and concentrated with layers of fruit flavours and spice, this wine should be enjoyed with rich pasta dishes, red meats, and roasted vegetables.
Montepulciano Vigneto di Popoli is one of the most intense and structured expressions of the famous red wine from Abruzzo, it is produced with grapes coming from a vineyard planted in 1952 famous for its low yields but of very high quality. It is one of the leading products of Azienda Valle Reale, a historical winery located between Gran Sasso, Majella and the Sirente-Velino regional park which produces natural wine with organic methods, without invasive interventions neither in the vineyard nor in the cellar. The Vigneto di Popoli is an old vineyard of just one hectare that stands on a clayey-calcareous soil at 350 meters above sea level, the strong temperature range between day and night contribute to the full ripening of the grapes and thus able to develop an intense aroma that we find in the wine. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Vigneto di Popoli" Valle Reale is spontaneously fermented in steel tanks with indigenous yeasts with a maceration on skins of about 10 days, subsequently aged in French wood tonneau for 12 months. The color is deep ruby red, with a complex and intense bouquet of spices, red berries, underbrush, humus and violets. In the mouth it is full bodied and structured with a fine and suave tannic texture and a long and persistent finish characterized by a nice sapidity.
Tasting noteThe nose is highly aromatic with pronounced aromas of black fruits, spice, leather, and a distinct mineral presance. The palate is full-bodied and silky smooth with juicy tannins and a bright acidity. Flavours of black cherries and plums blend with spices such as nutmeg and hints of pepper. The finish is very long and complex.
