Tenuta Campo di Sasso Insoglio del Cinghiale 2019 Toscana IGT

The Insoglio del Cinghiale is the most important wine of the Campo di Sasso Estate owned by Ludovico Antinori who avails himself of the advice of Michel Rolland for the production of this wine. Born in 2003, false hot summer, it is the most important wine of Tenuta Campo di Sasso. This Tuscan red wine with an exceptional value for money is composed of 32% Syrah and the remaining part is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The Insoglio del Cinghiale matures for only 6 months in barriques of first and second passage to leave room for the fruit more than the spices of the wood still present but in a very discreet way. This wine of ample fruity aromas and licorice has soft tannins that make it pleasantly fruity and fresh, soft and enveloping on the palate. Red wine ideal for game dishes, such as wild boar (from which it takes its name), roast pheasant or game stews. Serve at 16-18°C.

Tasting note
Poured a glass and put the rest in a decanter to give it a little air. Consumed over a few hours. Opaque, inky, almost black, purple w/ dark purple edge in color. Nose of dark fruit, sweet tobacco and baking spices. On the palate: sweet berries, plum, a hint of pyrazine and vanilla / wood spice. As noted by others, wine is perceptibly sweet. Dusty, sweet tannins are cloaked by the fruit at this stage--perceived on gums and cheeks. Finish is medium length. Overall, seems to have aging potential and will likely improve with some time in the cellar. The quality of the wine here is clearly high. It is well made, it does not feel like pressed juice, lesser quality grapes, etc. Anyway, really enjoyed the first glass, it was perfectly drinkable. Ate various cheeses, crackers and olives but that didn't seem to affect the wine.
