Appetizer with grapes, strawberries, figs and pineapple
A small dish with grapes, strawberries, figs and pineapple. The combination of grapes, strawberries, pineapple and figs has not yet reached the notoriety of "prosciutto and melon", but it is on the right track. It is a historical combination in Italy, since figs have always been part of the peasant and noble tables (in the Mediterranean the fig is absolutely the first cultivated plant). Almost obvious, therefore, the association between the four, as in the case, in fact, of the appetizer of figs, grapes, strawberries, pineapple.
In recent decades it has become fashionable in practically all Western countries. Very easy to prepare, it is native to southern Italy, with roots that are millennial. In fact, they date back to the second century AD. C., when the theories of the physician Galen began to spread. Who preached the need to keep in balance the four fundamental humors of the human body: hot and cold, dry and wet. And since the balance comes from what we eat and drink, here is the need to combine cold and wet foods (fruit in general) with hot and dry foods. Today, nutritional theories have made some progress. 😉 However, the validity of combinations such as ''grapes, strawberries, pineapple and figs" remains, both for goodness and for the perfect balance between fiber and sugars, vitamins, minerals and noble proteins.
In any case, it is recommended not to exaggerate with the quantities, making it more difficult to digest the next meal.
