1995 Château Angélus

Château Angélus is nestled in a natural amphitheater where sounds are amplified. In this ancient, storied vineyard, workers would hear the bells of three of the villages’ churches ringing simultaneously throughout the day. The Château takes its name and labels design from these ringing bells which symbolize the estate’s origins and the quiet moments of reflection they brought.

2012 was a year that the de Boüards will not soon forget. Château Angélus reached the highest echelon of St-Émilion estates, achieving the revered Premier Grand Cru Classé A ranking. 2012 also marked the passing of the reins to Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, 8th generation to preside over the family estate. The de Boüard de Laforest are a determined and passionate wine family. Having attained a position of such distinction, they strive to maintain their reputation as a leading producer; crafting wines of singular quality and intensity that are the finest possible expression of their outstanding terroir.

Before joining the family firm, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal studied economics and worked several years in wealth management in London. Now president and CEO of Château Angélus, Stéphanie is the third woman in the winery’s history to take on this role. Stéphanie is devoted to preserving the estate’s noble traditions while striving to continuously improve. A guiding philosophy for this mother of two is the notion that we do not possess, but rather hold our lands in trust for the next generation, who will one day pick up the torch and carry on the family legacy.

TASTING NOTES
Mouth where the menthol dominates at first which gives a very fresh side to the juice which then unfolds the typical aromas of the beautiful well-born Bordeaux: a magnificent fruit, coated with cigar and cedars. Complexity and tertiary aromas are present with herbaceous and earthy aromas in the second part of the mouth. Everything is linked perfectly but it lacks the depth of the great Angelus like 1990, nevertheless, the bottle gives a lot of pleasure and  remains on a high level. Beautiful earthy and herbaceous finish that stretches over a long length. Excellent. 94/100
