WHAT TIME DO YOU USUALLY HAVE YOUR FIRST CUP OF COFFEE?

Although many of us are used to taking the first cup of coffee as soon as we wake up, the ideal would be to wait a while for cortisol levels to decrease. Like most people, chances are you do it as soon as you get up. We need to wake up and start the day with a good dose of energy and positivity. Well, something that we have always taken for sure now seems not to be so. As we already know, science is always greedy in giving answers to everyday questions and this time it reveals that coffee may not be so beneficial during the early hours of the morning. Nevertheless, and this must be clarified immediately, everyone knows his body and knows what is best for him. However, just out of curiosity, you can try the following proposal.

We know that in the morning it smells like coffee. That the first thing you do after getting out of bed and opening the window is drinking coffee to be able to "get into gear". Are you skeptical about having to wait a few hours before drinking your first cup of coffee? There are good reasons why it is more appropriate to wait at least two hours after getting up to drink coffee.

COFFEE AND CORTISOL:
Steven Miller is a neuropsychologist and expert in chrono pharmacology, the discipline that analyzes the interaction between the different biological rhythms of the human body and drugs. After publishing some studies on the popular science blog "Neuroscience DC", he explains that taking the first cup of coffee as soon as you wake up does not have the effectiveness we expect. The reason lies in circadian rhythm and cortisol. Circadian rhythms are those that control our sleep habits and that also regulate cortisol, the well-known stress hormone, in charge of keeping us alert. We must know that, when we open our eyes and get out of bed, cortisol triggers automatically. In fact, exactly as several studies on circadian rhythms explain, the time of day when cortisol is most active is between 8 and 9 in the morning.

COFFEE AND HEADACHES:
Taking a cup of coffee at this time means incorporating a stimulant to our body just when it has already naturally reached the state of alert.
According to Dr. Miller, the principles of pharmacology are clear: it is not appropriate to give a "drug" to the body when it does not need it.
Taking coffee when our cortisol level has already peaked would explain why some people suffer from headaches. An overload of cortisol occurs, which sometimes leads our body to react to make us feel the opposite effect to the one desired: after drinking coffee, we feel more tired and anxious. It is clear that, nevertheless, each body reacts differently. Although it is good for some people to have coffee during the early hours of the day, if they waited a few hours, the benefits would be greater.

THE BEST TIME TO HAVE COFFEE IS BETWEEN 9:30 AND 11:30 IN THE MORNING
Everything will depend, without a doubt, on the time when we wake up. The ideal is to take the first cup of coffee after an hour and a half / two hours. It is at this time that cortisol levels in the blood are lowest and, therefore, we need caffeine. One of the basic principles of pharmacology is to administer drugs when you need them. We should take that into account. Taking the first cup of coffee just when cortisol levels are highest, will prevent us from noticing the effects. For this reason, shortly after, we will feel the need for another cup of coffee. In the aforementioned article by Dr. Miller, he indicates the best times to take coffee: between 9:30 and 11:30, between 13:30 and 17:00. As you can see, this is a wide time slot to be able to enjoy two or three cups of coffee a day. It's worth a try. As soon as you get up, drink a nice natural juice, take some protein and fiber and, after two hours, you can move on to coffee. You will probably immediately feel more awake, productive and with a lot of energy to face the day.
